Scafell Pike Conquered Oct 2010

(October 04, 2010)

On Saturday 2nd October my wife Debbie and I took on England's highest mountain to test out how effective Debbie's training has been in regaining the strength in her Achilles Tendon (ruptured oct 2009).

The weather on the way up to Cumbria was pretty hideous on the Friday, with the 4 hour 30 minute drive taking well over 7 hours. However Saturday dawned bright and breezy and after a hearty breakfast we set off to Wasdale Head to start the trek. The skies were clear and though it was hard work we made good progress on the way up, arriving at the top just after 14:30. If we thought that the hard work was done however, we were very much mistaken. The descent was a relentless 2 hour pounding on the quads and knees, and seemed much steeper than on the ascent,  but after 4 hours and 45 minutes in total we arrived safely back at the car with no injuries and feeling more than a little chuffed with ourselves.

The View from the top was a little disappointing

On the way back down

But on the way back down it was spectacular.

The hiking bug has well and truly bitten and we can't wait for the 3 peaks challenge next year.
